Nicholas Bessemer’s book was written for small business owners who have heard about “big data” and want to use this approach to understand their customers and their purchasing patterns.It contains information of two types. There is a very abstract discussion of the benefits of the big data enterprise. And then there is a very in-the-weeds treatment of the software tools MapReduce, Hadoop, Hive, and Pig. There is some good information here, including links to download the software and documentation.
What’s missing is a lot of the middle ground between the two extremes. There is nothing about how one would analyze this business data or what a useful output of such an analysis should look like. The reader is persuaded that analyzing business data is worthwhile, directed to a few tools, then left to figure out the rest. Not good.
The tool links are worth the price, so the reader need not feel cheated. But other sources are needed to complete the introduction to big data and its potential. I suggest Data Mining for Business Intelligence by Galit Shmueli, Nitin Patel, and Peter Bruce.

I've read the book in less than an hour. It's simple, well written, and gives a very good insight. I like the examples, and metaphors being used to explain. But understand that it's just an introduction.
The book doesn't give you any valuable information about how to use big data in a small business. He goes through some big data tools and asks you to literally "call you nefew who knows about computing" to help you out with this. At least it's a cheap book.
It's very clear that the auther never managed any small business and is a computer scientist.
I say in a nutshell This e-book is very cheap, simple, direct and precise. I am very pleased with its brief practical introduction to Big Data concepts MapReduce, Pig, Pentaho and Hive.
